North West University (NWU) says it’s ready to welcome first year students at all its campuses.
NWU said it has received more than 100 000 applications for first year studies for Mahikeng, Potchefstroom and Vaal Triangle campuses.
University spokesperson, Loui Jacobs, said first year students are expected to start arriving at the Potchefstroom campus this Saturday [11 January 2019] while other campuses expect arrivals on the 20th.
Jacobs said for the 2020 academic year NWU has already accepted between four and five thousand students.
“For the 2020 intake of first years we have received just more than a hundred thousand applications and our enrolment target is just over nine thousand that we can actually accommodate. However, we have preliminary accepted about four to five thousand students more than our target and that is to allow for the normal fallout that we usually have annually,” Jacobs said.
He added that registration at the university will only start on the 20th of January, while lectures will commence on the 3rd of February.
“That is when our first year students will start registering at the respective campuses and then followed by the senior students, also towards the end of January. And classes at the North West University will then commence on the 3rd of February,” said Jacobs.
