The Department of Education in the North West province says it’s all ready to hit the ground running for the 2020 school year.
This year’s calendar school starts on Wednesday 15 January.
Spokesperson for the education department, Elias Malindi, said the learner improvement plan has already been distributed to all schools across the province.
“We are ready for the 2020 academic year. The department has already distributed the learner attainment improvement plan to all our schools. Currently our teachers are having their lesson plans on how they are going to conduct lessons throughout the year,” said Malindi.
He added that the department has already distributed 99% of the required textbooks to schools.
“All schools have received their stationary. It’s almost 100% at the moment, so other schools will receive their textbooks immediately on the re-opening of schools throughout,” Malindi said.
Learners are also looking forward to the new school year.
One of the 2020 matriculants, Keamogetswe Maremela, is nervous but also excited to start his school lessons.
“I’m a little bit nervous about Grade 12, but I think I’ll do great because along the way I’ve been doing very well. So Grade 12, I’m ready for you,” said Maremela.
For a Grade R learner who’s about to start schooling at Sol Plaatjie Primary school in Mahikeng, Kamano Mogapi, friends is more or less what he’s worried about.
“I want to go to school with my Grade R books and find my friends at school,” said Mogapi.
