Gauteng Department of Health confirmed that some units at Odi Hospital in Pretoria are closed for disinfecting after a COVID-19 patient visited the hospital.
“The Gauteng Department of Health can confirm that Odi Hospital has a COVID-19 case. The necessary precautions and steps have been taken by the facility. This involves the tracing of close contacts of the confirmed case, additional disinfecting of the facility and debriefing of affected staff," said Kwara Kekana, spokesperson for Gauteng MEC for Health, Bandile Masuku.
According to an internal memo that Newsnote has seen, Odi Hospital closed the Out Patient Department ,which includes the reception area, consulting rooms and the COVID-19 isolation room
Tshwane has the third largest COVID- 19 cases in Gauteng, with 344 confirmed cases. Gauteng province’s latest figures show that there are 2400 confirmed cases with 1729 recoveries and 27 deaths.
The Department of Health said a total of 10 971 contacts have already been traced and 8485 people have completed the 14-day monitoring period with no symptoms reported and therefore they are de-isolated. A total number of 62 people are currently hospitalized in both the public and private healthcare facilities.
