The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in the North West has called on the African National Congress Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) to take action against the ANC Women’s League's Acting Provincial Secretary, Bitsa Lenkopane, for defying the party's leadership.
Speaking at a media briefing held in Mahikeng on Tuesday, SANCO reiterated its support for the ANC's interim leadership and said action must be taken against all those who are against the IPC’s decision to recall the top three leaders of five municipalities in the province.
SANCO's Provincial Secretary, Packet Sekatso, accused the women’s league of only defending women who are part of a certain faction in the province.
“In the North West the ANC Women's League has defined itself as a representative and advocate for a particular group of some faction anointed women. When the Premier of the North West was about to pronounce a reshuffle on the 26 of June 2020, the same women’s league celebrated despite the fact that several women were going to be affected by the reshuffle.
“Only to be replaced by some women the league preferred such as your acting provincial secretary, Bitsa Lenkopane, who has her own dirty linen, corrupt activities, and criminal convictions over her head,” said Seaketso.
He urged the ANC IPC to take serious disciplinary actions against those who defy its decision to recall troikas of five municipalities.
“We call on the IPC to take serious disciplinary action against the acting provincial secretary of the ANCWL in the North West province for agitating for mass defiance of structural resolutions, including those that pretend to be members of the ANC fighting ANC like they are the opposition parties. This group of women’s league is obsessed with defending five women at the expense of service delivery of thousands of women and children in our Mahikeng area,” said Seaketso.
Meanwhile, Lenkopane said she will take legal action against SANCO for its allegations against her.
“I’m taking these allegations personally and I am not going to leave it. I am going to take legal action on it. But be it as it may be, there are so many SANCOs, I will call SANCO to respond to this. I don’t have time to play, I’m talking real issues of the movement here. I can’t even respond a lot about SANCO, I don’t know it as they don’t have constituency. I call them bomahamba ka ntlwana,” Lenkopane said.
The ANC Youth League in Ngaka Modiri Molema Region has also rejected the IPC’s decision to recall the troikas of five municipalities of Mahikeng, Ditsobotla, Maquassi Hills and Matlosana local municipalities, as well as Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality.
