The assault case against Orlando Pirates football player Thembinkosi Lorch has been provisionally withdrawn.
The decision was made by the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday after the player made a brief appearance.
Lorch was arrested on charges of domestic violence at Midrand Police Station in September last year.
He allegedly slapped her girlfriend and tried to strangle her when she asked him about his whereabouts.
The football star was later released on R2 000 bail.
The National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) Phindi Mjonondwane said: “This after consideration of representations submitted by Lorch to the senior public prosecutor of Randburg. The senior public prosecutor instructed the senior investigating officer to conduct further investigations and the NPA will be guided by those further investigations on whether to proceed with prosecutions".
A decision on whether or not to proceed with the prosecution will depend on these investigations, said the NPA.
