ANC veteran, Bushy Maape, has been sworn in as a member of the North West Provincial Legislature.
The swearing in paves a way for him to be elected the next premier.
He was nominated by the ANC’s Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) to replace former premier, Professor Job Mokgoro, who was ordered to resign last month.
Mokgoro and the IPC have been at loggerheads for several months with the interim leadership complaining that relations with the premier have completely broken down.
Earlier the ANC provincial leadership raised concerns about Mokgoro’s way of running government.
Mokgoro became caretaker premier in 2018 following weeks of violent protests against then premier, Supra Mahumapelo. He was then elected new premier after the 2019 general elections.
