Gauteng MEC for Health, Nomathemba Mokgethi, says the province is expecting to have surpassed 4 million vaccination mark by the end of Wednesday.
“I want to announce that we would have vaccinated 4 million and 2 million people... those will be fully vaccinated,” said Mokgethi.
The Gauteng Health department has partnered with South African Breweries (SAB) to intensify its vaccination programme as it pushes to reach its target of vaccinating 10 million people by December.
MEC Mokgethi has raised concerns with low vaccination statistics in some parts of the province.
“In Ekurhuleni there are some sub-districts that are not performing well. We will also be targeting Ekurhuleni, but here in Tshwane the sub-district that we are in is really not performing and that is why we will focus on this region,” said Mokgethi.
SAB said mandatory vaccination for its employees is not on the card, but it is encouraging people to get the jab.
