Democratic Alliance (DA) mayoral candidate for City of Tshwane, Randall Williams, is adamant that the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is wrong for reopening candidates submission process.
The DA has filed papers in the Constitutional Court challenging the IEC's decision.
The party is of the view that the commission misinterpreted the apex court judgement. The African National Congressn(ANC) and the United Democratic Movement will now have a second chance to register their remaining candidates for the 1 November election.
Williams has, however, described the governing party as “desperate” to have the candidate submission process opened. He told his party's supporters that the ANC is in “trouble” if the Constitutional Court rules in the DA's favour.
“It is estimated that there are 35 municipalities where the ANC have not submitted candidates.
“In Tshwane there are approximately 12 of their ward candidates who are not properly registered,” said Williams.
The party said it's got plans for the municipality over the next five year and wants to win Tshwane with a majority of votes.
