Rose Thabancho is officially the new Executive Mayor of Matlosana Local Municipality in the North West.
Thabancho was elected mayor of the Klersdorp based municipality on Wednesday, after she was earlier announced by the ANC’s Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) as the new mayor elect.
She was one of the three people interviewed by the ANC’s national leadership in line with the party’s new approach to deploy people who are “fit for purpose” and qualified for the job.
Thabancho steps in the shoes of the late Maetu Kgaile, who passed away in July this year due to COVID-19 related complications.
ANC IPC welcomed Thabancho’s election.
“The election of Cde Rose as the Executive Mayor represents another important milestone ahead of local government elections. We commend our local ANC caucus for diligently carrying out the decision of the organization.
“The election of Cde Rose marks a continuation of a mandate given to the ANC by the people of Matlosana in the previous local government elections. The IPC firmly believes that Cde Rose possess the requisite skills, experience, academic qualifications and capacity to lead the people of Matlosana. We wish to reassure our people that her election is a reaffirmation of the commitment made in our manifesto to deploy honest, ethical and competent leaders,” said the ANC IPC in a statement.
