A Sibanye-Stillwater employee died while on duty in Marikana on Monday.
The platinum producer said a miner died due to a fall of ground while he was working at an entry examination of a workplace at Marikana operations near Rustenburg in the North West.
Sibanye Stillwater spokesperson, James Wellsted, said the company together with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy is investigating the tragic incident.
In October two members of the rescue team died while searching for a missing worker at Sibanye’s Kloof gold underground operation.
The company said the two rescuers, part of a six-member team, were overcome by heat during a search operation for a missing employee.
